URINARY INCONTINENCE IN WOMEN
Urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine) is a problem affecting 1 in 3-4 women. It is a socially embarrassing problem that lowers confidence and limits social activities.
There are two types of problems that cause urine leakage. The type that is caused due to increased bladder activity is called Overactive bladder. The other type that happens during increase in abdominal pressure is called as Stress incontinence and it is usually due to weakness of pelvic floor muscles.
It is important to undergo certain specialist investigations to confirm diagnosis.
Treatment is directed as per diagnosis.
Important to adopt healthy bladder habits like drinking adequate fluids, avoiding caffeine and emptying bladder regularly. Maintaining ideal body weight and avoiding constipation will be useful.
